Image Digitizing and Topographic Update Project in Kluang and Padang Endau, Johor
The Image Digitizing Project, along with Topography Updates in the Field (Field Verification), Database Editing, and Review for the Kluang City area and Padang Endau City in Johor, is an initiative by Jabatan Ukur dan Pemetaan Malaysia (JUPEM). This project was launched as part of JUPEM’s continuous commitment to modernize and enhance the quality of national geospatial data to meet the evolving demands of accurate and up-to-date mapping in today’s digital era.
The primary objective of this project is to produce a reliable and comprehensive National Topographic Database for the designated project areas. By combining high-resolution image digitization with rigorous field verification activities, the project ensures that every element on the map—such as terrain features, infrastructures, land use, and natural landmarks—is accurately represented and reflects current ground realities.
The project involved extensive on-site verification, where data collected through satellite imagery and aerial photography was validated in the field by technical teams. This was followed by detailed editing and systematic review of the geospatial database to maintain consistency, precision, and alignment with national mapping standards.
This project covered two strategic urban areas in Johor: Kluang City and Padang Endau, both experiencing growth and development requiring updated and reliable spatial data. The implementation period spanned twelve (12) months, from 26 October 2017 to 26 September 2018.
By successfully executing this project, JUPEM strengthened its role in providing accurate, up-to-date topographic data for government planning, infrastructure development, disaster management, environmental monitoring, and public use—ultimately supporting Malaysia’s national geospatial infrastructure goals.
